The City of Knowledge in Panama is a government-sponsored campus of technology companies, academic institutions, and other organizations, located in the former Fort Clayton United States Army South headquarters. Alta Planning + Design worked with the City of Knowledge Foundation to complete a bicycle and pedestrian master plan for implementing multi-modal improvements on the 120-hectare campus.
The Alta team traveled to Panama in the spring of 2012 to conduct a field mobility audit and create a preliminary vision plan for the project greenway connections. Information gleaned from this visit along with case studies of similar campuses helped guide the conceptual bicycle and pedestrian master plans. The team also conducted a technical bicycle and pedestrian training workshop in English and Spanish. Virtual project meetings were being held over the course of the project using Skype and web meetings for ongoing collaboration. Based on the recommendations developed, Alta also provided a detailed action plan for implementation, which was soon completed.
