Day to Day

With minimal oversight, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including grading design, signing and striping, traffic signal design, storm drainage, demolition plans, typical sections, traffic control plans, construction staging, details, and engineer’s estimates for large-and small-scale bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects, complete streets, and multi-modal projects. This may include responding to internal QA/QC comments and external client comments. From time to time, you may participate in and lead some site visits to project sites to investigate existing conditions and observe construction activities. You will lead some project tasks and assist in creating all project documents for to prepare a complete bid-ready Plans, Specification, and Estimate package. There may be projects that require specific documentation, such as projects with Caltrans oversight, state and/or federal funding and you will be expected to assist in and lead some efforts in preparing necessary documents. You may be designated as the project design lead or support a project design lead and/or project manager, and other team members in client coordination, sub-consultant coordination, and document review. You will participate in and be encouraged to lead some project coordination meetings with clients (both internal and external).

Some support will be encouraged in pursuing projects including, writing the scope of work, preparing fee estimates, preparing technical graphics and concepts, reviewing proposals for other technical content, and coordinating with internal staff.

You will support a variety of internal and external clients on creating conceptual designs and plans for grant applications, feasibility studies, and other planning documents.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity.
  • Must possess licensure of an EIT
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, the field of active, non-motorized transportation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for roadway projects and a detailed understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.
  • Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations.
  • Exhibits strong initiative and ability to capitalize on opportunities to enhance Alta’s position in the marketplace.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Excellent professional ethics, leadership skills, accountability, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and analytic skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro/SimTraffic, or similar products.
  • Proficiency in an enterprise-wide resource planning and project management tool.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field of study.
  • Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.
  • Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and/or providing expert level presentations at conferences and other events promoting the field of sustainable infrastructure and active, non-motorized transportation.
  • Experience using Deltek Vision and/or MicroStation V8.
  • Active participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committees.

Compensation
The pay range for this job in Oakland, CA is $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
