Day to Day

As a Landscape Designer your work will be based primarily in the western part of the USA, but you’ll have many opportunities to work nationwide. Collaborating with our team of engineers, planners, graphic designers, data analysts, and outreach specialists, you will see your work get built and become real. Current and recent project work produced in Portland includes trails in Wilsonville and Tualatin, OR, Kalispell, MT and the Coachella Valley in Southern California, urban design work in Montana and Arizona, and other projects that foster active, sustainable, and engaging communities. Day to Day activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • conceptual design
  • schematic design
  • construction drawings in AutoCAD
  • development of cross sections
  • hand and digitally rendered plans
  • site visits
  • charettes
  • interaction with clients
  • professional development activities

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a consulting environment or public entity.
  • General understanding of, and interest in, the field of active, non-motorized transportation.
  • General understanding of the design process.
  • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently with supervision.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects, if necessary.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibits accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • General understanding of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint or similar products.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar products.

Preferred

  • Experience using Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GoogleEarth GIS, or similar products.

Flexible Schedule
Alta offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule where most employees work from home three days per week. In-office days support our collaborative culture, one of our core values. This position is also open to candidates who would like to work less than than a 40 hour per week schedule (32 hour week minimum). Our Portland office is located close in to downtown Portland, offering excellent access to public transportation.

Compensation
The pay range for this job in Portland is $62,300–$84,550 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
