Summary + Overview 

Alta Planning + Design is seeking a full-time Programs Specialist I or II in our Portland, OR or Seattle, WA office. If you are passionate about creating programs that help people bike, walk, and use transit more often, this position is for you. As a TDM (Transportation Demand Management) and Programs Specialist, you will be responsible for helping to design, implement, and evaluate active transportation and TDM programs. You will also support in-person outreach on behalf of our clients.

The types of programs you deliver may include, but are not limited to: media campaigns; bicycle/pedestrian safety education; residential or employer TDM programs; outreach campaigns; walking/biking events; and traffic safety campaigns.

Position Priorities

The essential priorities of this position are to:

  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective behavior change campaigns and programs, including Transportation Demand Management; promoting bicycling/walking/transit; and traffic safety
  • May lead and/or participate in outreach activities.
  • Manage the production of materials and incentive items, working with our in-house graphic design team.
  • Writing tasks including copywriting, social media posts and ads, e-newsletter articles, surveys, white papers, and evaluation reports

Responsibilities + Tasks

Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for creating work plans and timelines, and using them to keep projects on schedule
  • Work with graphic designers, web developers, translators, and other staff/partners to produce graphic and web products.
  • Write communications/marketing copy, technical memos and reports, and program planning documents at the direction of others.
  • Develop expertise in client technical tools (e.g., social media channels, MailChimp, Survey Monkey, ridematching database/platform, Trello), and uses/administers them on an ongoing basis.
  • Support program evaluation through creating surveys creation, analyzing data, and writing reports at the direction of others.

Requirements

This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to:

  • Passion for healthy communities and active transportation.
  • At least one year of experience working directly with the public (e.g., outreach, community or political organizing, communications/marketing, advocacy, public health, etc.)
  • Exhibit strong initiative, ability to manage competing priorities and multiple, simultaneous tasks and work effectively with a team to deliver products and projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Workspace apps
  • Exhibit accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal outreach skills.
  • Experience organizing and leading events, classes, or workshops. Creative ability to develop event ideas.
  • Good organization and work management skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (e.g. to attend client meetings and conferences)

What We Offer

Compensation

The pay range for this job in Seattle, WA is $67,200.00 – $91,200.00 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
