Alta Planning + Design is seeking a Senior Planning Associate with project management experience in our Los Angeles, CA office. This management-level Project Manager role is responsible for building and maintaining client and partner relationships, ensuring successful project delivery, growing an office as well as leading and supporting team members to be well-rounded with a focus on their professional development vs. Alta’s success.

Day to Day

You will be the Project Manager on multiple large, complex projects, often with the support of an Assistant Project Manager and/or Task Lead(s). You will manages and mentor staff, support professional development & collaborates with Alta staff to drive innovation in our industry. You will be key in conducting QA/QC on deliverables; and lead business development activities as well as team meetings and trainings. In this role you will also present to elected officials, stakeholder groups and the public; and participate in and plan site visits and outreach activities.

General Role

  • Uses creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments, and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of programs.
  • Works with teams of planners, landscape architects, and engineers to deliver projects
  • Contributes to regional and service area strategic planning and execution.
  • Delegates significant amounts of work clearly and exercises oversight over these tasks.
  • Participates in strategy for growth, hiring/staffing, marketing, and systems.
  • Deploys innovative approaches to projects that advance the state of practice.
  • Manages all sizes of projects, including project planning, staffing decisions, managing subconsultants, budget tracking, and invoicing.
  • May act as Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager for very large, complex projects with large budgets and/or several subconsultants.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for clients.
  • Implements and adheres to the QA/QC processes, as defined by the technical service areas applicable to the project.
  • Leads proposal, interview, and negotiation efforts, with support from Principal in Charges.
  • Holds priority client relationships.

  • Recommends facilities, personnel, and funds required to carry out initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to:

  • Software Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Workspace apps; Adobe Acrobat; has least basic understanding of MS Project and Deltek.
  • Required Experience: 12+ years
  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, environmental science, architecture, or related field; master’s degree preferred.

There are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:

  • Licensure: AICP is applicable but not required

Flexible Schedule
Alta offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule where most employees work from home three days per week. In-office days support our collaborative culture, one of our core values. The office is located in downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) right across from the 7th Street/ Metro Center Station. We are about a 1.8 mile (14 min) bike ride to Union Station, which is also accessible by the underground light rail system from the 7th Street/ Center Station. Persian Square is within walking distance to the office and plenty of nearby shops at the Bloc (shopping plaza), Whole Foods, and nearby FIGat7th (shopping plaza) .

Compensation
The pay range for this job in Los Angeles is $120,000 – $170,000. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
