Our people make the difference.

Lucy Laird

A recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill’s Master of City & Regional Planning program, Lucy has long been fascinated by how people move around, and the ways in which the built environment can either nurture human connections or close people off from one another. While at Carolina, she completed a master’s project examining how best to improve access to Raleigh’s Dorothea Dix Park from surrounding neighborhoods and beyond, recommending both transit and active transportation facility improvements. At Alta, she intends to grow as a planning practitioner and help to create more safe, just, and healthy communities, with a focus on equitable access to public space and intentional, responsive community engagement.

“Enabling access to safe active transportation gives us a choice in how we move in an auto-dominated society, and allows us to make those close connections to others that are the heart and soul of our communities. I am proud to be part of a team that is doing such important and innovative work to advance active transportation opportunities for all.”
