Alta then led the sign concept development, which included establishing the look and feel of the signs. Based on the City’s existing signage, locally identified landmarks, and district architectural guidelines, Alta developed signage concepts that clearly displayed a hierarchy of information to pedestrians in Downtown. The proposed signage reflected the community’s identity, values, and aspirations with input from Public Works on operations and maintenance. Design intent drawings were also completed with sufficient detail needed to fabricate the signs.
Phasing of sign placement was one of the key elements of the project. To allow for implementation over time, Alta established wayfinding routes throughout downtown using WalkRight: Alta’s proprietary wayfinding route prioritization model. Alta evaluated route readiness, proximity to destinations, overall need and gap closure as they relate to navigational challenges in Downtown to identify five priority routes.
