Bianca Popescu is based in Alta’s Seattle office, bringing a decade of expertise in both the private and public sectors. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a degree in urban planning, she transitioned to the creative realm of civil engineering for her graduate studies at the University of British Columbia, where she focused her thesis on bicycle safety. Through her work as a diligent planner and project manager, she strives to improve communities by increasing the safety and accessibility of the transportation system, especially for vulnerable road users. Bianca specializes in safety and vision zero plans, road safety assessments, multimodal corridor studies, bicycle and pedestrian planning and spatial GIS analyses, aiming to create safer streets for all.

“Growing up in Vancouver, B.C., my bicycle gave me the freedom to go anywhere in the city from a young age. However, during my college years, I moved to a less bicycle-friendly city, and I felt uncomfortable walking and biking. This experience made me passionate to work to enhance street safety and comfort for all road users. Today, I bike with my two young kids and truly understand first-hand the importance of designing our streets to be comfortable and safe for all ages and abilities. I feel so fortunate that I get to improve communities through my work every day!”
