Our people make the difference.

Cyrus Chimento

Cyrus is a geospatial data scientist with 7 years experience working in the active transportation space. He got his start at Washington, DC’s regional bike advocacy organization and came to Alta most recently from USDOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. He specializes in developing data, analyses, and tools that impact decision-making. He holds a BA in biology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an MS in geospatial information science from the University of Maryland. He envisions a rapid, equitable decarbonization of the US transportation system, led by widespread use of active transportation and transit.

“My family moved to the Netherlands when I was very young and lived car-free for 6 years before moving to Washington, DC’s suburbs. The sharp contrast in my level of freedom between these places was a foundational experience for me. Increasing opportunities to get around via active transportation and transit is important to me due to their function in mitigating overlapping societal crises - like climate change and physical inactivity - but also because they increase the freedom, safety, and joy of getting around communities.”
