Alta has supported the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC)’s Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program since it began in 2006, and is helping implement programs that promote safe walking and biking to school at over 250 schools.

Our team uses a data-driven approach to identify schools with the highest need for SR2S engineering solutions and provides services for up to 20 schools each year.

Engagement, walk audits, and safety assessments are used to prioritize projects that will improve safety for all families accessing schools in the county.

Suggested route maps provide students and parents with tailored maps that help identify the safest routes for walking, biking, and rolling to school.

Year-end reports and evaluations that quantify the success of the SR2S efforts by analyzing mode shift and program equity and participation data. We collect this data through standard student travel tallies; unique surveys for parents, school champions, and school administrators; and surveys from students and teachers who participate in SR2S activities.

And, activities and outreach at all enrolled schools, in order to evaluate the impact of each program element.

The final products include an Annual Report, annual School and District Snapshots, and a biannual comprehensive program evaluation that supports a process of continuous improvement.
