Revolutionizing Boise's Pathways: Alta Unveils Citywide Master Plan, Connecting 76% of Residents to a Thriving Network of Recreation and Transportation

Alta developed a citywide master plan for Boise’s off-street network of multi-use pathways for recreation and active transportation. Building on the popular Boise River Greenbelt, this plan aims to identify opportunities for broader pathway coverage by utilizing parks and open space, rail corridors, canal corridors, and high-comfort roadways.

A critical desired outcome of this plan was to give the City a tool and a process for pathway implementation and collaboration with stakeholders. Alta developed a prioritization methodology that evaluates proposed projects based on:

  1. Project feasibility and partner support
  2. The goals of the plan, such as how well proposed pathways connect to useful destinations.

Alta coordinated closely with ACHD throughout the planning process to explore opportunities for multi-use paths within ACHD right-of way. This final plan includes infrastructure and non infrastructure recommendations. The completed network puts 76% of Boise residents within a 10-minute walk of a pathway, expanding transportation and recreation opportunities across the City.
