Alta planned, designed, and implemented a safer neighborhood speeds outreach and education campaign that encouraged drivers to slow down, look out for others, and stop for people wanting to cross the street.
The slower neighborhood speeds campaign was a community effort rooted in members asking each other to do their part for neighborhood traffic safety. The campaign called on people driving to slow down, look out for others, and stop for people wanting to cross the street. These efforts were implemented in conjunction with speed limit reductions on neighborhood streets. More than 1,000 community members helped to determine the campaign’s visuals and messaging, including the slogan, “It starts with us.”
Alta worked closely with the City, students, community groups, and neighbors to distribute yard signs, posters, info cards, and reflective stickers across Lawrence’s neighborhoods. The programs ambassador program played a large part in its success. Ambassadors became community champions who shared campaign materials and messages with their neighbors. Alta also worked with the school district to provide each student with backpack mail materials.
The vibrant design and memorable messages, combined with Alta’s nimble, detail-oriented, and community-focused approach resulted in a successful campaign, despite pandemic hurdles.
