Alta partnered with the City of Long Beach and SCAG to host a three-day complete street demonstration along the Artesia Boulevard commercial corridor.
Utilizing SCAG’s “Go Human” kit-of-parts, Alta and Long Beach staff showcased temporary curb extensions, crosswalks, and parklets considered for permanent installation as part of the Artesia Great Boulevard Project.
To address the presence of several commercial vacancies along Artesia Boulevard, Alta coordinated with the local city councilmember’s office to bring in mobile vendors from other parts of North Long Beach. Alta co-programmed the Go Human demonstration with the Uptown Jazz Festival, which brought many racially and culturally diverse vendors who represented the community.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and related in-person gathering restrictions, the Alta team used virtual meeting techniques to continue planning for the demonstration with various stakeholders and organized further community outreach efforts such as neighborhood canvassing. Alta also worked with local neighborhood associations to further the reach of promotional efforts. Alta also worked with local neighborhood associations to further the reach of promotional efforts.
