The Portland Bureau of Transportation received $2 Million from a USDOT SMART Grant application led by Alta

In an exciting development for downtown Portland, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has received a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grant to pilot a Zero Emission Loading Zone (ZEDZ). Alta is supporting on PBOT on this project that aims to transform urban goods movement and promote sustainable practices within the community.

This project will test an innovative set of incentives and regulations to better understand what technology and strategies municipalities can use to support and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the freight sector. This could include diverting existing deliveries into the ZEDZ to local fleets of electric-assist cargo trikes and electric vehicles, vans and trucks, or supporting local delivery companies in transitioning their own fleets to zero-emission modes.
