Day to Day

The Associate Engineer will be involved in helping foster livable communities in Florida, as well as other parts of the country. A day in the life of an Associate Engineer in the Florida Offices could consist of:

• Managing transportation projects at various levels of planning and design.
• Prioritizing safety and multimodal transportation in planning, design, and overall decision-making.
• Working with a diverse team of talented planners, engineers, and landscape architects to envision and produce designs that integrate safety, placemaking, and community-driven elements.

Alta’s Florida practice offers a diverse range of projects, including corridor planning studies, full design of active transportation facilities, creating design guidelines, and leading safety action plans and multimodal transportation plans. The Associate Engineer will join a dynamic and growing team of dedicated professionals who share the common goal of creating safer and diverse transportation options for communities in Florida.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
• Experience in, and knowledge of, the field of active, non-motorized transportation.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for roadway projects and a detailed understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.
• Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations.
• Exhibits strong initiative and ability to capitalize on opportunities to enhance Alta’s position in the marketplace.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
• Strong initiative and the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Excellent professional ethics, leadership skills, accountability, and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and analytic skills.
• Good presentation skills.
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, SimTraffic, BlueBeam or similar products.
• Proficiency in an enterprise-wide resource planning and project management tool.

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field of study.
• Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.
• Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and/or providing expert level presentations at conferences and other events promoting the field of sustainable infrastructure and active, non-motorized transportation.
• Experience using Deltek Vision and/or MicroStation V8.
• Active participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committees.

Alta offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule where most employees work from home three days per week. In-office days support our collaborative culture, one of our core values. Our Florida main office is located in Mizner Park, Boca Raton; in the heart of Downtown and only a block from the Brightline Station. This allows us to access our clients in South Florida via train, and in Central Florida as well very soon. This is in addition to having several shared workspace locations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach.

Compensation
The pay range for this job in Boca Raton, FL is $91,300 – $112,050 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
