Alta Planning + Design Relocates Headquarters to One Main Place, in the Heart of Downtown Portland

[PORTLAND, OREGON]: Alta Planning + Design is moving its headquarters from 711 SE Grand Avenue to 101 SW Main Street this month. The move signals Alta’s commitment to supporting the reinvigoration of Downtown Portland.

The sustainable transportation consulting firm was founded in Portland in 1996, and its headquarters has been located in the city ever since. Over the past 28 years, the firm has worked to mitigate climate change and advance safety and social justice through sustainable mobility. In late 2022, Alta’s CEO, Brett Hondorp, decided to move the headquarters to a new building to create an office environment that supports the post-pandemic hybrid work needs of Alta’s multidisciplinary teams. One of Alta’s goals in the move is to support other local businesses and be part of Downtown Portland’s resurgence. The company’s new office, intentionally designed to support both online meetings and in-person collaboration, aims to inspire staff to gather at the office. Alta’s more than 60 Portland team members will begin working at One Main Place beginning Monday, December 11.

“As a business we are committed to doing our part to address the climate crisis, so locating our headquarters in Portland’s walkable downtown provides our employees and visitors with the greatest number of low carbon transportation choices. Downtown Portland has great bike access and transit connections for our employees, who live in all corners of the region,” said Alta Principal and Northwest Region Manager, Katie Mangle. “Plus, it’s an easy walk to multiple parks, cafes, shops, and restaurants nearby.”

Alta was supported in this relocation process by several valuable local partners. Nossa Norman Design Studio supported Alta through the programming, property search, and design process. Jake Lancaster and Annalore Rodman at JLL served as real estate brokers, and Hyphn has provided furniture and technology resources.

Alta was founded in 1996 when communities were calling for safer streets for people walking and bicycling as the non-motorized transportation movement developed in North America. Alta pioneered the field of active transportation, evolving our planning and design work into a visionary practice that empowers people to live active, healthy lives and gets them where they need to go. With staff located across the US and Canada, Alta has evolved its practice into a forward-thinking sustainable transportation company, backed by the Trilon Group.
