Alta partnered with the City of Birmingham to develop a compelling, visually engaging RAISE grant application aimed at securing funding for the final design and construction of a Complete Street Project and Urban Trail. Titled “Birmingham Civil Rights Crossroads: Reconnecting Historic Neighborhoods Through Active Transportation,” the application focuses on revitalizing a historically Black community that played a pivotal role during the Civil Rights movement. Key elements of the project include the Smithfield to 20th Street segment from the Draft Red Rock Trail Master Plan and the 16th Street project.

Alta provided detailed cost estimates and a benefit-cost analysis (BCA) for the application, incorporating results, previous planning and design materials, and other supporting information from the City and its partners. Working closely with the City’s project manager, Alta revised the draft application up to two times to ensure alignment with client feedback and integrated all necessary materials, forms, and attachments.

Our graphic designers crafted a final narrative, seamlessly merging BCA results with supporting photos, maps, and newly created graphics to produce a high-quality, visually appealing document. The completed application was delivered in PDF format to the City for official submission to the USDOT via the required online portal.

The City of Birmingham was awarded $21.6M in federal funding for this project in February of 2024.
