Alta is leading the development of this Greenway Master Plan for Haywood County—a community in North Carolina’s mountain region. A key aspect of the Master Plan is resilience, given recent flooding. The plan utilizes greenways as a tool during flooding events and prepares the county for the future. Farmland protection and respect for landowner rights are also important focuses of this plan. Alta is collaborating with national resiliency policy expert Dr. Gavin Smith on this effort.
Coordination with the community and stakeholders has been foundational to this planning effort. Alta has helped facilitate engagement through pop-up events, steering committee meetings, and public workshops. In addition to this work, Alta has developed informative graphics to convey recommendations and render community support.
