Alta completed an Action Plan to update the original Red Rock Trail System™ with the goal of increasing equitable connections while creating an overall trail loop around the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area. The updated plan aims to do this through seven new priority corridors to be implemented over the next several years. 

To ensure successful implementation and maintenance of the priority corridors, Alta led stakeholder engagement with a Steering Committee and Task Force of local and regional professionals from multiple municipalities, non-profits, health organizations, and more.

Alta then identified recommended trail typologies for each priority corridor and facilitated 10% Design for complex portions of each corridor with the help of project partner Dynamic Civil Solutions, who acted as a subconsultant on this project. The project team provided recommendations for implementation strategies and outlined maintenance solutions for the future of the overall trail network.
