Alta is working with the Wolf River Conservancy to plan, design, and implement a 22-mile trail along the Wolf River, connecting the eastern suburbs of Memphis westward to where the Wolf River joins the Mississippi River. Phase 9 of the project is a 0.9-mile greenway segment that runs along a lake adjacent to the Wolf River on the site of the future Wolf River Conservancy’s headquarters. Phase 9 was the first segment of the current program that Alta led the design of, and it is substantially complete with an opening targeted for spring of this year. Alta is currently conducting construction observation and coordinating with the contractor on final construction items.

The entire project is being funded through a combination of local, state, federal, and private sources. Alta is leading the management of route alignment planning, public engagement, surveying, permitting, property acquisition, operation, and maintenance plan, wayfinding, project web page, engineering, and construction administration and testing.

To date, Alta has led the engineering of five phases of the project. These project phases consist of 5.8 miles of 12-foot-wide asphalt trail, 1.6 miles of separated bike lanes, a 250 foot asphalt entrance road off of N. Highland Street, 900 feet of concrete boardwalks, 14 prefabricated pedestrian bridges, a railroad bridge underpass canopy, seven drainage culverts, sidewalk improvements, greenway amenities, a wayfinding signage system, an RRFB, three HAWK signals, and two traffic signal modifications.

The team also completed an Economic Impact Assessment of the greenway.
