Resilient and Sustainable Trail Infrastructure
April 16, 2025, | 1:30 PM-2:30 p.m. CST
As trail designers, we have the responsibility to champion sustainable solutions. Trails offer unique opportunities to create high-impact outcomes for climate change, such as integrating alternative materials, sourcing resilient products, and using low-impact construction methods. Using the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail as a case study, presenters will explore how to reduce emissions and store carbon while prioritizing resiliency. Learn from lessons and tools used in this ambitious, carbon-positive project.
Presenters will also discuss Asheville, North Carolina, where trail systems withstood historic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Discover how resilient trails can thrive in increasingly harsh conditions and best practices for designing in flood-prone areas.
