Our suite of demand estimation tools use mobile data, travel demand model outputs, and open datasets to bring a nuanced understanding of where multimodal transportation investments are most needed.
Potential to increase active transportation exists everywhere, even where long distances or unsupportive infrastructure make walking and biking difficult. For example, short trips to local amenities or transit can be turned into active trips with the right investments. Additionally, emerging modes such as e-bikes and e-scooters are increasing the length of trips people will make without a car, also increasing active travel demand. We use a range of mobility datasets from mobile data to the census to identify this potential demand for active transportation and transit connections. Our analysis shows how potential demand compares with existing facilities to identify where new facilities can enable safe and comfortable trips for people of all ages and abilities.
